General Questions
Q: How is Classic Metal Roofing different
than traditional roofing?
A: Classic Metal Roofing truly ushers in
a new era of residential roofing. The 12”x 60” panels are pressed from high-strength .024” thick
aluminum alloy. This metal design not only creates a sleek, attractive look,
it also provides a durability that is unparalleled by any other roofing material.
The goal in the design of any roofing system has always been to match
the roof’s functional life with its aesthetic.
That is, even if a roof doesn’t leak and provides protection from the elements many years
from the initial installation, will it remain attractive? Part of this product’s
uniqueness lies in the fact it will remain beautiful as it continues
to protect for 50, 60, even 100 (or more) years.
Q: What type of warranty comes with this roof?
A: Since Classic Metal Roofing is the highest-quality
low-profile roof on the market, Classic Products
confidently offers a lifetime warranty for
the original owner and 40-year transferable
warranty for future owners. Additionally, the
manufacturers of the Kynar/Hylar coatings offer
an unmatched 30-year Fade Resistance Warranty.
The Oxford Shingle Warranty is industry-leading
and represents the pride and craftsmanship
we put into our metal roofing products.
Q: If this roof is aluminum, won’t it
be noisy when it rains?
A: No! Since most houses’ attic spaces
are insulated (unlike barns and agricultural
buildings in which you may hear the pronounced “plink” sound),
Oxford Shingle is no louder than any other
roofing material in the rain. The insulation
absorbs almost all of the noise caused by rain.
Additionally, the press-formed design of Oxford
Shingle helps break up any noise before the
sound even hits the insulation. In fact, one
customer who installed metal roofing on her
home was irked that she could no longer hear
the soothing rain noise in her bedroom as she
tried to go to sleep at night.
Q: Can we walk on it?
A: You sure can! As with any type of roofing
material, always exercise caution when walking
on the roof, but Classic Metal Roofing allows
for an above average walk-ability, which,
unlike other roofing materials, does not
decrease with age. As other roofing materials
grow older, they become brittle and stand
a good chance of cracking if walked on. This
is not a concern with aluminum shingles.
Of course, you must always take care to walk
on the tops of the shingles so as to avoid
smashing the locks.

Weather
Q: Is there a greater risk to my home during
a lightning storm?
A: No, contrary to popular opinion, metal
does not attract lightning. Yes, metal does
conduct electricity, but there’s a huge difference between conduction
and attraction. Actually, the real determining factor in a building’s likelihood
of being struck is its relative height to the surrounding objects. Lightning
will usually hit the highest object it can find, so roofing material plays no
role in the probability of a home being struck.
Q: How well does Classic Metal Roofing stand
up to hail?
A: Classic Metal Roofing will perform very
admirably if tested by a hailstorm. In fact,
it is warranted against cracking and leaking
due to hail indentation or perforation. The
tough, durable metal design of Classic Metal
Roofing greatly reduces the many problems to
which traditional roofing materials succumb
when pelted with hail. This roof’s superior
hail performance may also entitle you to a
discount on your homeowner’s insurance
premium.

Energy & The Environment
Q: How can Classic Metal Roofing save me money
on energy bills?
A: Because of aluminum’s superior reflectivity, and other physical properties,
Classic Metal Roofing is able to reflect a high percentage of the sun’s
infrared energy, the portion of sun light that is most responsible for attic
heat build-up in a home. This means that the air conditioner doesn’t have
to work as hard to cool the home, saving energy— and saving you money.
Q: Is Classic Metal Roofing considered a “green” building
product?
A: Yes! Due to the fact that Oxford
Shingle is manufactured from approximately
98% recycled aluminum, Classic Metal Roofing
is a very environmentally friendly product.
Additionally, Classic Metal Roofing will last
an extremely long time, but if for any reason
it ever does need to be removed, it is 100%
recyclable. This product allows you to close
the recycling loop — you take cans
back and then can purchase a product that is
actually produced from that recycled material!
Finally, Classic Metal Roofing helps reduce
energy consumption, which can help lessen the
smog and other environmental risks that are
directly caused by the production of energy
in power plants.

Beauty & Aesthetics
Q: How can metal roofing be beautiful? Will
my house look like a barn or industrial building?
A: No—exactly the opposite! Oxford Shingle’s attractive low-profile
design can actually turn an ordinary-looking home into the neighborhood’s
centerpiece. Classic Metal Roofing is available in twelve attractive Kynar 500®/Hylar
5000® colors, including three dual-tone
print-coat colors that create soft, blended
appearances. Also, upon request, Classic Metal
Roofing can be coated with the premium, one-of-a-kind
ThermoBond Textured Kynar Finish in virtually
unlimited unique, multi-hued shades.
Q: Will it rust?
A: No! Since Classic Metal Roofing is manufactured
from the industry standard 3105 aluminum
alloy, and since aluminum does not corrode
like steel and other metals, you will never
have to worry about your Classic Metal Roofing
roof developing unsightly rust.
Q: What is Kynar/Hylar?
A: Kynar/Hylar are the trade names for the
polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) resin used
in the paint finishes applied to metal roofing.
The secret to the strength and durability
of PVDF resins lies in their chemical structure.
The carbon-fluoride chemical bond is one
of the strongest and most stable known to
man. This C-F bond gives Kynar/Hylar coatings
unequaled durability, resistance to fade
and chalk, and corrosion protection. Kynar/Hylar
finishes are universally recognized in the
industry as the highest-quality paint finish
available.
Q: What is ThermoBond Textured Finish?
The ThermoBond Textured Finish, available
on request, is a Kynar powder-coat that is
electrostatically-applied to the panels after
they have been formed. It was researched and
developed by Classic Products to combat the
problems associated with typical stone coatings,
yet still provide the beautiful, textured finish
for which stone coatings are famous. The result
is a highly scratch- and fade-resistant coating
that represents the pinnacle of modern roof
coating technology.
